Handicaps, Affiliation Fees, and Club Levies

What is an affiliation fee and what is it used for?

How to Obtain an Official Handicap

To receive an official golf handicap, you must complete 54 holes of qualifying golf, which can be made up of:

  • Three 18-hole rounds, or

  • Six 9-hole rounds.

After each round:

  • Your scorecard must be attested by a playing partner.

  • The attesting player must be a member of a golf club.

Affiliation (Golf Union) Fees

  • An affiliation fee is a mandatory annual payment required to register and maintain an official handicap.

  • This fee is paid to your Home Club, who then register you with the relevant golf union (England Golf, Wales Golf, or Scottish Golf).

  • Affiliation fees typically range from £10–£20, but can vary by club.

  • The fee usually covers:

    • Handicap administration

    • Insurance

    • County and national golf union fees

Failure to pay the required golf union fees may result in your Home Club suspending or cancelling your membership, in line with PlayMoreGolf’s Terms & Conditions.

Club Levies

  • Some Home Clubs require members to pay club levies.

  • These costs are separate from your PlayMoreGolf membership and are managed directly between you and the club.

  • Levies may fund benefits such as bar discounts, clubhouse facilities, or general club maintenance.

Everyone Active Managed Clubs

If your Home Club is managed by Everyone Active, please note:

  • Clubs operate separate Men’s, Ladies’, and Seniors’ sections.

  • To compete and hold a handicap through the club, you must join the appropriate section.

Alternative Handicap Options

If you do not wish to compete within your Home Club but still want an official handicap, you can register independently through:

This allows you to enter open competitions across the UK, although:

  • Entry fees may apply per competition

  • Costs vary depending on the event and hosting club

This option is ideal for golfers who prefer flexibility and open competitions rather than club-based events.

*As a flexible member of your Home Club, an annual affiliation fee applies to your membership. This fee is paid by the club on your behalf to the relevant governing bodies (England, Scotland or Wales Golf), including county and insurance charges. If the fee is not paid, the club incurs the cost. Please contact your club secretary for further details.
